On October 27 and 28, 2017, Pinecrest Players performed She Kills Monsters at the North Carolina Theatre Conference play festival. Union Pines High School hosted the festival. There were fourteen schools performing and sixteen shows presented. Click here to read more.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) made its way onto the Pinecrest campus. PBIS is a national program that began in elementary and middle schools, and it has now made its way into high schools. The goal of PBIS is to encourage positive behavior among students. Assistant Principal Deborah Trogdon, the administrator in charge of PBIS, said, “Teenagers are very focused on themselves. PBIS teaches them that it’s about others as well.” Click here to read more.

Sports
After Friday night’s girls basketball game on December 1, there is no doubt that the long time rivalry between Pinecrest and Union Pines has intensified. When the game started at 6pm in Pinecrest’s gymnasium, the tension in the air was nearly palpable. The bleachers on each side of the gym were jam-packed with students from both schools who “were much involved in supporting their [respective] teams,” said PHS coach Ronshau Cole. “It was a great atmosphere!” Click here to read more.
While the cheerleading squad continues to practice for basketball season. At games, the squad sits in the bleachers, and they support their school. They have cheers designated for basketball and to hype the students watching the game. Click here to read more.
On Tuesday, October 24, 2017, the boys soccer team defeated Purnell Swett High School in the first round of playoffs with a score of 9-0. Junior Braydon Peery, senior Jimmy Kester, senior Aaron Clark, senior Ethan Santoyo, senior Noah Edgerly, senior Haden Smith, and sophomore Jair Balleseros scored goals. Click here to read more.

Pinecrest is the only school in Moore County that runs the Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) Promise club. SAVE has also combined with the Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) club. Click here to read more.
Once again, Pinecrest High School’s Science Olympiad team has begun their meetings. Science Olympiad is a team competition where students compete in science related events. For the past seven years, the team has been growing and growing. Last year, Pinecrest placed second at regionals and fourteenth at states. Click here to read more.
Key Club is an international foundation that pairs with the local Kiwanis Club in the area. This club teaches leadership skills and provides numerous opportunities to volunteer around the town. Key Club participates in highway cleanups, food drives, and volunteering at booths for festivals in Southern Pines. Click here to read more.

The Patriot newspaper was created so students can enjoy reading about school and community happenings. Put online during the 2016-2017 school year, the paper is currently undergoing changes to both content and format. The staff's goal is to provide PHS students and teachers with an easy way to access information about Pinecrest, and Moore County in general. The Newspaper Club was established during the second semester of the 2016-2017 school year, and will continue into the following school years. Newspaper Club is open to all. At the end of the 2016-2017 school year, Pinecrest High School announced that rising seniors may paint their parking space for the low price of $100. This was quite exciting news, the school was abuzz with talk of what students were going to paint on their parking spot. Downtown Southern Pines is a welcoming area when it comes to food, shops, and more. There are many small, locally- owned stores and restaurants. One of the most known restaurants in Southern Pines is Betsy’s Crepes. Betsy’s Crepes opened in 2010, and since then it has been an icon for Southern Pines. Click here to read more.

The Patriot Marching band is one of the biggest collections of students at Pinecrest. One of those students is senior Courtney Olvey. Olvey has been part of marching band for four years, and she’s been involved with concert band for two years. Click here to read more.
On a normal school day, Alicia Williams, the copy editor of Pinecrest’s yearbook, works on the yearbook during her third period which starts at 12 and goes to 2:05. Copy editors are responsible for editing all the writing that is done throughout the yearbook. Click here to read more.
Senior Mack Roberson. Who is he? Roberson is not only a student at Pinecrest who partakes in numerous extracurriculars and serves as Command Chief Master Sergeant within AFJROTC, but he is a pilot as well. In AFJROTC, Roberson is responsible for maintaining order over everyone within the corp and regulating the merit and demerit system, a means of rewarding and correcting cadets for their actions.
