New Teacher Joins Language Department

By Rylee Campbell

Recently, there have been a few changes within the foreign language department. While some of the Spanish and French teachers have left, there have been some new additions as well. A new staff member to Pinecrest this year is Spanish teacher, Ms Martinez.

This is her first year in North Carolina, and she has been here for one month. Martinez moved from Puerto Rico to San Antonio, Texas, and then to North Carolina.  In Puerto Rico, she taught ESL for three years, and taught both English and Spanish. Before moving out of Puerto Rico, Martinez was fearful of having regrets. Yet, after coming here to be with family, she believes it is great to have a fresh start.

Martinez has enjoyed her time at the school so far, and even says the administration “was very welcoming” and “treated her like family.” In the classroom,  it has not only been a learning experience for the students, but for Martinez, too.

“I don’t just teach the language and the grammar, but I teach a little bit of my culture, too,” she said. Martinez likes to create a different environment in the classroom where it is not only educational and beneficial, but enjoyable and fun.

“You can tell she’s passionate about her job, and she likes what she does.” said freshman Anthony Williams.

Ana Martinez, the new Spanish teacher, stands proudly by her class rules.
