Pinecrest Hosts First Track Meet of the Season

On Saturday, December 3, 2016, Pinecrest hosted its first Patriot Polar Bear meet of the season. The teams that attended were Cape Fear, Green Hope, Pine Forest, Richmond Senior, E.E. Smith, South View, and Union Pines.

The Pinecrest girls won with a final score of 157, followed closely by Pine Forest who scored a total of 129 points.    

 

The Pinecrest boys came in second with a total score of 79, behind South View who scored 203 points.

The Pinecrest girls teams scored in the 4x800 meter relay with the Pinecrest A team coming in second with a time of 11:11.50 and the Pinecrest B team in fifth with a time of 12:12.60.

Pinecrest also scored in the 55 meter hurdles. Junior Taya Mckeithan came in third with a time of 10.77, sophomore Asia Adams came in fifth with a time of 11.24, senior Anjel Rowe came in seventh with a time of 11.35, and senior Destiny Person came in eighth with a time of 11.37.

Junior Taya Mckeithan said, “Overall I think the team did really well for it being the first race of the season. One thing we could improve on is handoffs in the relays. However, since it was the first meet of the season, I still believe we did really good. Personally, I would say that I did pretty good in my events. I came in second in shot put and hurdles. Even though I placed in second, I had fun.”

The girls that scored for the Patriots in the 1,600 meter run were sophomore Sophia Hirtle in second with a time of 6:02.00, sophomore Brooklyn Doorey in fourth with a time of 6:16.60, and freshman Grace VonCannon in eighth with a time of 6:32.30.

 Scoring for the Patriots in the 4x200 was the Pinecrest B team in sixth with a time of 2:16.09.

In the 1,000 meter run, sophomore Sarah Dorrel came in fourth with a time of 3:30.68, freshman Helen West came in seventh with a time of 3:37.49, and sophomore Anna Grace Brammer came in eighth with a time of 3:51.24.

In the 300 meter dash, junior Macie Kavanaugh came in first with a time of 43.13.

In the girls 32,000 meter run sophomore Sophia Hirtle came in first with a time of 12:56.66 and junior Gabrielle Flanders came in second with a time of 14:16.76.

In the girls 4x400, the Pinecrest A team came in second with a time of 4:34.25.  

Junior Gabrielle Flanders said, “Overall, the team did really well. We finished first out of seven teams with 157 points. Guys came in second place with 79 points. I came in second for the girls in the 3200. It wasn’t my best time, but I had run the Reindeer Run earlier that day, so I feel like I did pretty good.”

The Pinecrest boys team scored in 4x800 relay with the Pinecrest A team coming in second with a time of 8:52.10.   

 

Pinecrest also scored in the 55 meter hurdles. Sophomore Evan Dewars came in sixth with a time of 10.47.

In the 55 meter dash, sophomore Grant Mabe came in sixth with a time of 7.19 and sophomore Corey Patterson with a time of 7.20.

In the 500 meter dash, sophomore Grant Mabe came in third with a time of 1:14.41.

 In the 1,000 meter run, junior Colin Alexander came in second with a time of 2:41.94.

 In the boys 3,200 meter run, junior Nate Sanborn came in first with a time of 11:30.90, freshman Caleb Nocton came in fifth with a time of 12:08.98, and sophomore Dyson McDearmon came in seventh with a time of 12:55.83.

In the 4x400 relay Pinecrest A team came in third with a time of 3:47.30.

The next meet is hosted by South View High School in Fayetteville, NC on December 17, 2016.
