Men's Tennis Team is off to a Great Start

By Isabella King

The week of Monday, February 13 to Friday, February 17 was the men’s tennis team tryouts. Coach Gale Deese, who coached the women’s tennis team, is the coach for the men’s team also.

According to the managers of the team, juniors Lizzy Mclymont and Emily Arters, many guys turned up this year to tryouts. With a mix of seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, the coach is hoping for a great season!

On the first day of tryouts, the boys all gathered around with their coach, ran, and then quickly got on the courts. They did this for the next couple days, as Coach Deese observed them and evaluated their strengths and weaknesses. The coach made no cuts this year and told everyone what seed they were.

In school tennis, six players play singles, each player ranked from 1-6. After that, three teams of two people play doubles, and they are ranked as well. This lineup will change as the season goes on. The lineup determines who plays and when.

Mclymont, said, “I’m really looking forward to this season. This is my first year managing and I already can’t wait to see how well these guys do. They are a great bunch and I hope to have lots of great memories!”

The number two seed, freshman Will Bode said, “I think that tennis is a really fun sport and can’t wait to play more of it during the season.”
