Patriot Community Mourns the Loss of Mason Wagner

By Katie Blevins

While the football season is just beginning, the football team is still grieving the loss of fellow teammate and friend Mason Wagner. He went out of his way to talk to everyone, even if he didn’t necessarily know the person. He was an all around great person and athlete. He was active in track, football, and wrestling.

Everyone that knew Wagner had only positive things to say about him. Coach Metzger said, “Mason was always fired up for life. I've known him since he was eight years old and he never met a stranger. He was really outgoing and wasn't afraid to tell you how he felt.”

Several of Wagner’s teammates had nice stories and memories to share about him.

One teammate, senior J.T. Adams said, “ I’ve known Mason since I was little. We both went to the same elementary school and middle school. He was always making someone smile and had a smile on his face. I also had the chance to play on the same team as him. He was very respectful and a junior leader on the team. I will miss laughing and seeing him around school and practice.”

Another teammate, junior Adrian Ryner said, “I grew up with Mason, I’ve known him since I was in middle school. We were pals for a long time. Then we grew closer during football here at Pinecrest. He is a friend I wouldn't trade for anyone. If you needed something, he would try his best to give it to you with no return needed.”

Senior Michael Margolis, one of Mason's track teammates, said “He was one of the most respectful kids I have ever had the chance of meeting and befriending. He always showed up with a smile, ready to do whatever he was involved in. I was his pole vault coach and friend, and there wasn't a day he wasn't motivated and excited to get practicing. I’m going to miss him.”

According to Wagner’s teammates he was a kind and loving person and was a true Patriot who touched many people’s lives. He will be deeply missed.
