Flex Monday Moves to Flex Wednesday

By Rylee Campbell

Previously known as Flex Mondays, Patriot Flex Time is a time where students can make up absences, attend club meetings, get tutoring, or make up assignments for class.

Flex Mondays used to take place from 8:20 am through 9:15 am, but have been changed to take place on Wednesday’s between first and second period, 10:15 am through 10:40 am.

When Flex days were on Mondays, some students tended to forget that Flex day was taking place, which was the reason for the change in days.

Flex days took place before first period, many students would not attend, or did not have anywhere to be, which is the reason for the change in time.

“Flex days are a good opportunity to utilize your time and get things done. With Flex time being in the middle of classes everyone has somewhere to be and everyone can get things done, without worrying about coming before or after school to do so.  Having meetings during Flex time is also very efficient because everyone can attend club meetings” said junior Katie Warren, one of the vice presidents of DECA.

“Before, with Flex time being on Monday, Flex days were more of an option, and if your grades were well enough you didn’t have to attend. But now with Flex time on Wednesdays in between classes, you do not get to choose whether or not to go to Flex time or not; it is mandatory. I think that when Flex days were on Mondays. students were granted a little more flexibility in their schedule, and a bit more free time.” says junior Diana Cisneros.

When Flex days were on Monday students who had grades above a D were not required to be in a certain class, which would encourage students with lower grades to improve them so that they could have a little more free time in the mornings on Mondays.

Now, Wednesday Flex time makes sure that all students have a chance to prevent falling behind, and even if it doesn’t fit every single students wants, it provides a quick time every Wednesday to stay on track.
