Cheerleading Transitions to Basketball Season

By Kathryn Holton

While the cheerleading squad continues to practice for basketball season. At games, the squad sits in the bleachers, and they support their school. They have cheers designated for basketball and to hype the students watching the game. Cheer will not be competing in competitions this year, but they do plan on competing next year. The squad has twenty-seven students to support the cheerleading squad.

“This year has truly been incredible. I loved every second of it,” sophomore Lindsay Douglass said.

Twice a week the squad practices. They use their practices to work on new cheers, stunts, and formations. If the squad needs more practice, then they break into different groups to practice.

“The squad needs to be loud and clear, and they need to encourage the students to cheer with them. One of the main goals we have, whether it’s for football or basketball, is to hype up the team while they play. ,” junior Emily Carlson said.

On game days,  the squad arrives an hour early. During this hour, they do warm ups. This include stretches, revisiting cheers, and practicing stunts. The stunts builds up their excitement so they can spread their school spirit to the people watching the games.

“I think people should come to the games because it’s easier to cheer on a team when we have an active student section,” Carlson said.
