Places You Can’t Miss in Downtown Southern Pines

By Kathryn Holton

Downtown Southern Pines is a welcoming area when it comes to food, shops, and more. There are many small, locally- owned stores and restaurants.

One of the most known restaurants in Southern Pines is Betsy’s Crepes. Betsy’s Crepes opened in 2010, and since then it has been an icon for Southern Pines. The store has three different hours throughout the week. On Mondays through Fridays, Betsy’s Crepes is open from 7AM to 4PM. Then on Saturdays, the hours are from 8AM to 4PM. Sundays are the shortest hours opening at 9AM to 2PM.

The restaurant is welcoming, and it has a constant flow of customers throughout the day. There is something for everyone, from sweet to savory, from to breakfast to lunch, Betsy’s Crepes can provide. Betsy’s Crepes is a perfect place for going out for  brunch, a date, or a meeting with coworkers. Customers can order different types of crepes, waffles, and french toast.

One of my favorite things to get at Betsy’s Crepes is to build my own crepe. The crepe was made of whole-wheat batter, and on the inside it had eggs, bacon, and mozzarella cheese. Everything was cooked perfectly. After eating, I had felt energized for the day. I was satisfied with the meal, and the employees made me feel at home.

“Betsy’s Crepes is out of this world,” said senior Holly Riedesel.

Senior Kristana Wade said, “I think everything is really great, and I can’t wait until they expand.”

Betsy’s Crepes are currently in the process of expanding, but there has not been a said date when the expansion will be finished.

There are many shops in the downtown area as well. One that sticks out the most is Green Goods. Green Goods motto is “Saving the planet one purchase at time.” This store’s products are made of either organic or recycled material. Perfume, jewelry, clothing, furniture and more are sold at this store. Everyday items like spoons, forks, etc. are turned into unexpected products, like jewelry. With reasonable prices, Green Goods helps the environment by selling one-of-a-kind items.

“I think it is nice,” said sophomore Juliet Nevelu. “They are like the other knick-knack stores here.”
