Pinecrest Hosts All County Orchestra

By Rachel Rodgers

All County Orchestra was held at Pinecrest on Thursday, November 3.

Students from Union Pines High School, New Century Middle School, Southern Middle School, Elise Middle School, Highfalls Elementary School, West Pine Middle School, and Crain’s Creek Middle School all participated in this event.

The students played for a total of six hours starting at 9 am and ending at 2 pm with some breaks in between.

The high schools performed pieces such as Symphony Number 88 Finale, “Aase’s Death” from Peer Grynt, and Water Music Suite.

The middle schools played Alegria, Deux Danses de la Renaissance, I. Basse Danse “Joyeux,” Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song and Cakewalk Strut.

There were two guest conductors for the high school and middle school, Ms. Joli Brooks and Ms. Ann Daaleman.

On the night of November 3 the students performed a concert, and parents were invited to come and listen to what their student had been working on.

The middle schools played first, followed by the high schools.

All County is a great opportunity for orchestra students to learn different musical techniques from someone other than their teacher while getting to play with people from different schools.

“I liked how we all came together to support the arts. The clinic was great, I made some new friends and got to see some old ones too. It was great to see how the whole community care to see us as we had a pretty full auditorium to show for our hard work,” said senior Ryan Barrett.

“I enjoyed sharing the stage with the other orchestras and working with a guest clinician. I liked how we all came together to express our thoughts on the budget cuts by wearing red, and I think it really left a lasting impression on the educators. The day long rehearsal was tiring, but well worth it because we put on an awesome performance that I’ll never forget,” said junior Aubrey Davidson.
